Ginger Vieira

Ginger Vieira has lived with Type 1 diabetes and Celiac disease for almost 12 years. Author of “Your Diabetes Science Experiment,” Ginger is also known in the diabetes community for her health coaching at www.Living-in-Progress.com, and video blogging at www.YouTube.com/user/GingerVieira. She obtained her coaching training through David Rock’s Results Coaches program.

A graduate of the Professional Writing Program at Champlain College in Burlington, VT, Ginger is also a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor, she has set 14 national, drug-tested records in power lifting, and the Vermont state female bench press record. Her best lifts include a 308 lb. deadlift, 190 lb. bench press, and a 265 lb. squat.

Ginger’s new book, “Your Diabetes Science Experiment,” is designed to help individuals better understand and manage mysterious high blood sugars and unexpected low blood sugars. It discusses how to improve insulin sensitivity, adjust insulin doses for meals, background insulin needs and exercise. It also includes an extensive chapter explaining proteins, fats and carbohydrates, and how each macronutrient impacts the body of a person with diabetes.

The book comes from lessons initially learned by Ginger during intensive powerlifting training and studying human physiology in medical textbooks after experiencing resistance from various members of the medical community when she began powerlifting.

Ginger’s theory, as she discovered in her own diabetes management, is, “There is a reason behind every blood sugar fluctuation. Some of which we have control over, some of which we don’t, but I believe that simply understanding why those fluctuations happen can lessen a diabetic’s feelings of guilt and frustration when blood sugars don’t go the way we want them to.”

As a cognitive health coach, Ginger’s work at “Living in Progress” is a unique form of support dedicated to helping people with chronic illnesses and other health challenges find balance and happiness in their life. She works with her clients over the phone and in person, across the country, to overcome challenges such as emotional overeating, rebuilding self-esteem, improving nutrition habits and making exercise a regular part of life.
