April 3, 2011 ~ Diabetes Management with Dr. Steven Kaufman, Acting Chief of Endocrinology from Cooper University Hospital

Steven Kaufman MD, Acting Chief of Endocrinology of the Cooper University Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, is a board certified endocrinologist who has focused on the care of patients with diabetes. Dr. Kaufman has practiced endocrinology at Cooper University Hospital since 2000.

Dr. Kaufman is a Co- Primary Investigator on a five year grant from the Merck Foundation focused on decreasing disparities in diabetes care in underserved communities.  Within this role as the Staff Endocrinologist with the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers Dr. Kaufman leads primary care transformation for patients with DM in Camden.

Dr. Kaufman’s additional roles in Cooper Health System include Medical Director of the Cooper Diabetes Center, an American Diabetes Association recognized education program and Chair of the hospital’s Inpatient Glycemic Control Project.

Dr. Kaufman graduated with honors from Rutgers University with his Bachelor of Arts. He spent two years in laboratory research at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia before turning to a career in medicine. Dr. Kaufman remained at Temple University for medical school before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He performed his Endocrinology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Kaufman is actively involved in medical student and resident education in the classroom and clinical settings. Dr. Kaufman was previously awarded the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Excellence in teaching Award, and he regularly receives ‘Top Doc’ honors from area magazines.
